THE QUICK ANSWER

How does a biweekly time card work?

A biweekly time card covers 14 consecutive days. Add work hours for each week separately before calculating overtime. At a 40-hour weekly threshold, 45 hours in week 1 and 35 in week 2 means 80 total hours, 75 regular hours, and 5 overtime hours.

Biweekly time card calculator: weekly overtime

Under the usual federal weekly overtime calculation, each workweek stands alone. An under-40-hour second week does not cancel the first week’s overtime. This calculator never uses an 80-hour combined threshold for ordinary weekly overtime.

A pay example you can verify

At $25 per hour and a 1.5× overtime multiplier, 75 regular hours earn $1,875. Five overtime hours earn $187.50. The estimated biweekly gross pay is $2,062.50, before taxes and other adjustments.

Biweekly is different from semimonthly

Biweekly means every two weeks: a 14-day period, typically 26 pay periods per year, occasionally 27 depending on the calendar. Semimonthly means twice a month, usually 24 pay periods with varying lengths. Do not use a fixed two-week form to imply a complete semimonthly payroll calculation.

Choose your real workweek boundary

The start date also defines the seven-day overtime groups in this report. Align it with your employer’s established workweek, which may begin on a day other than Monday. A shift is attributed to its starting date; split a shift at a workweek boundary when your payroll policy requires it.

A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Frequently asked questions

Is biweekly overtime calculated after 80 hours?

For ordinary weekly overtime, no. Each workweek is calculated independently. A 45-hour week followed by a 35-hour week includes 5 overtime hours even though the combined total is 80.

Can I copy the first week into the second?

Yes. Use Copy week 1 to week 2, then edit any changed shifts or breaks. Undo restores the prior entries.

Can I print the two-week time card?

Yes. Choose Print / PDF beside the results for a printable two-week report. To add optional name or project details first, choose View report. You can also download the daily entries and weekly subtotals as a CSV.
